Sapienza University of Rome is ranked the best university in the world for classics and ancient history for the third consecutive year, according to the prestigious QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 report.
Europe's largest university scored 98.7 in this subject.
The QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 cover a total of 54 subjects, grouped into five broad areas.
Sapienza University ranked among the top 50 universities in the world in 7 subjects and among the top 100 in the world in 21 subjects, according to the report.
Sapienza also came top among Italian universities for arts and humanities and natural sciences.
For these subjects it ranked respectively 41st and 44th worldwide.
"The ranking rewards our University's humanities studies, including first place in Italy for Archaeology, History, Library & Information Management and History of Art, a subject introduced this year for the first time," said Sapienza Dean Antonella Polimeni.
"Sapienza ranks among the world's top 50 universities in 7 subjects, including Physics-Astronomy and Law; and it ranks first in Italy in as many disciplines, including Psychology, Statistics and Nursing. An achievement that places us among the best universities in the world," she added.
Rome's Luiss Guido Carli also continued its ascent in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2023 index, entering the top 15 universities worldwide in Political and International Studies and reaching the top 50 worldwide for Business and Management and Law, respectively ranking 46th (second in Italy) and 47th, up more than 30 positions over last year.
