Millan's San Siro stadium is likely
to be knocked down to make way for a new ground that Serie A
giants AC Milan and Inter plan to build, Mayor Giuseppe Sala
said on Thursday.
The clubs have presented plans to build a new 60,000-seater
stadium and the city has started a public consultation process
regarding the project.
"There is a procedure to be followed, but the new stadium will
probably happen," Sala told a group of students at the Collegio
delle Università Milanesi foundation.
"We are proceeding with the public debate, which will finish on
November 18.
"To get a return on the investment, the clubs must have shopping
centres and offices.
"If we were to keep San Siro, they would clearly go somewhere
else.
"So at that point if becomes necessary to knock down San Siro".
