The centre-left Democratic Party (PD)
has admitted defeat in Sunday's general election.
"Undoubtedly, we cannot fail to attribute victory to the right,
pulled by Giorgia Meloni, in the light of the data seen up to
now," PD Lower House whip Debora Serracchiani told a news
conference.
"It's a sad night for the country".
She said that, due to Italy's election law, "the right has the
majority in parliament, but not in the country".
