Energy saving plan worth 607 euros per household

Annual bill hikes could be cancelled out says govt

The government's proposed energy saving plan is worth 607 euros per household a year, according to a copy ANSA has obtained and which ranges from savings on showers to those on washing machines.
A government heating squeeze amounts to savings of 178.63 on annual bills, the plan said.
A further 428.75 euros comes from recommendations on savings from the ecological transition ministry, the plan said.
The total saving, which may in some cases be equal to energy hikes, thus cancelling them out, is some 607.58 euros.
The Ecological Transition Ministry on Tuesday published new regulations aimed at saving energy in view of the possibility that Russia could shut off gas supplies permanently.
The regulations foresee the maximum temperature of heating this winter being cut by 1°C, to 17° for residential and industrial buildings, with a 2° tolerance margin, and 19° for other buildings.
Certain buildings, such as hospitals and care homes, are exempt.
The period which buildings are allowed to use heating has also been cut by 15 days - they will be turned on eight days later and turned off seven days earlier.
The ministry said the measures should save around 5.3 billion cubic metres of gas.
Outgoing Premier Mario Draghi's government has moved on many fronts to try to reduce Italy's reliance on Russian gas since the invasion.
The administration has signed agreements with several countries to boost alternative sources of energy and Algeria has replaced Russia as Italy's biggest supplier of gas.
