President Sergio Mattarella said Thursday that it is necessary for the West to maintain a unified stance with Moscow after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
"The conflict triggered by Moscow for an anachronistic thirst for power calls for a clear, unified response in order to restore conditions of peace," Mattarella told the national conference of development cooperation.
The head of State has repeatedly backed Western sanctions on Russia in response to the war in Ukraine.
Mattarella also spoke about the Agenda 2030, saying Italy remains committed to achieving the Sustainable Development goals (SDGs).
He said the contribution of foreigner citizens who live in Italy was "precious".
"Immigrants' labour generates positive effects for the functioning of our productive and welfare systems and also contributes to the development of the countries of origin," he said.
"Worldwide remittances to low and medium-income countries amounted to around 550 billion euros in 2021 alone".
