Migrants are essential for the growth
of society, Pope Francis said Thursday.
In a message for the 108th annual World Day of the Migrant and
Refugee, Francis said "history teaches us that the contribution
of migrants and refugees has been fundamental for the social and
economic growth of our societies.
"And it is still so today.
"Their work, their capacity for sacrifice, their youth and their
enthusiasm enrich the communities that receive them.
"But this contribution could be much greater if it were
valorized and supported via targeted programmes.
"It is an enormous potential, ready to express itself, if only
it were offered the possibility".
