The natural gas used by Italian
households and businesses is now five times dearer than January
2021, Ecological Transition Minister Roberto Cingolani said
Tuesday.
The price has risen from around 20 euros per MWh in January last
year to around 100 euros in April, an almost five-fold rise and
some daily peaks of over 200 euros.
Italy is seeking to cut is reliance on Russian gas amid the
Ukraine war.
Cingolani added that electrical energy prices had risen to
record levels, reaching 200-250 euros per MWh.
