ISTAT said Monday that Italy's
employment rate reached 59.9% in March, with over 23.04 million
people in work here, the highest level on record since the start
of the statistical series in 2004.
The national statistics agency said the number of people in
employment in Italy rose by 81,000 in March compared to February
and by 804,000 with respect to the same month in 2021.
It said this increase mainly concerned women and people over the
age of 24.
It said 9.776 million women were in work in Italy and 51.2% of
women of working age here were in employment.
ISTAT said both the number of the unemployed and people who are
inactive on the labour market decreased in March.
It said the unemployment rate dropped by 0.2 of a percentage
point to 8.3%, taking it down to the level of 2010.
The youth unemployment rate, however, rose to 24.5% of under-25s
active on the labour market, an increase of a 0.3 of a
percentage point.
