Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio said
Friday that the West must keep up its tough sanctions on Russia
after Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, adding that Rome backs
Kyiv's bid to join the European Union.
"We must continue with the sanctions, hit the Russian economy
and make sure that Putin has fewer and fewer resources to
finance this war," Di Maio said on the fringes of the Antalya
diplomatic forum in Turkey.
"We have always said that we support the ambition of Ukraine and
the Ukrainian people for the European Union".
The minister added that "we encourage the attempt at mediation
by Turkey" in the Ukraine conflict.
