- ROME, MAR 11 - Total expenditure by international tourists
visiting Italy - and of Italians travelling abroad - recovered
in 2021 but tourism flows remained half of those recorded in
2019, before the COVID pandemic, the Bank of Italy said on
Friday.
According to data released by the Italian central bank, the
tourism industry last year registered a growth estimated at 0.5%
of GDP, a slight improvement on 2020.
The surplus recorded in 2019 was 1% of GDP.
Last year, the expenditure of international travellers in
Italy increased by about 25% compared to 2020.
Expenditure by Italian travellers abroad went up by more than
30% over the same period.
"Both flows remained about half of those registered in 2019",
the bank said.
