(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 15 - Italy's 2021 Nobel physic prize
winner Giorgio Parisi has had an asteroid named after him.
The naming of the new asteroid, (15803) Parisi, has got the seal
of approval from the International Astronomical Union (IAU),
after a proposal from an astronomy club, the CCAF, in the
northern town of Farra di Isonzo.
"I would never have imagined in all my life to have an asteroid
with my name on it," said Rome-born Parisi, 73, who got the
Nobel jointly with Klaus Hasselmann and Syukuro Manabe for
groundbreaking contributions to theory of complex systems, in
particular "for the discovery of the interplay of disorder and
fluctuations in physical systems from atomic to planetary
scales."
Parisi added that he was "moved and excited by the honour that
the CCAF has decided to reserve for me.
"I will consider it as a constant reminder of the commitment
necessary to consolidate scientific culture in our country".
