There were several "strange" pneumonia cases in the hospital of the northern town of Alzano Lombardo from November to January which may have been the coronavirus, prosecutors said Tuesday.
The hospital is currently at the centre of a probe into how the COVID emergency was handled.
There were 18 such cases in November, 40 in December and 52 in January.
In the whole of 2019 there were 256 cases, against 196 the previous year, a 30% rise.
