A San Marino hospital denied
treatment to a 17-year-old girl who injured her knees in a
motorbike accident on Saturday, on the grounds that she was a
foreigner, Il Resto del Carlino newspaper reported Monday.
The social security institute in the tiny city state between
Bologna and Rimini denied the report.
"The State hospital of San Marino does not deny treatment to
anyone," it said.
"The Republic of San Marino does not enact any 'health and
humanitarian apartheid'," it said, citing numerous case in which
San Marino ambulances operated outside its borders and "the fact
that never has a patient of any nationality, brought by Italian
ambulances, been refused".
