Police on Tuesday were
investigating the death of a 62-year-old doctor, Fabio
Cappelletti, who was killed the night before in a hit-and-run
accident in the Trentino town of San Michele all'Adige.
According to initial investigations, Cappelletti, a general
practitioner, was riding back home on his bicycle on Monday
night when he was run over by a car as he was turning into the
Brenner state road from a bike path.
The car did not stop.
Cappelletti was then run over and dragged for a few meters
by a second car before it was able to stop.
The man was already dead when 118 paramedics arrived at the
scene.
Investigators are now working to identify the hit-and-run
driver and are examining the car's mirror, which came off in the
accident, and questioning eye-witnesses.
