A Polish educator who was
found guilty of abusing elderly and disabled patients at the
clinic where he worked hanged himself in his garden on Friday.
Wlodzimier Wieslaw Winkler, 52, was sentenced on September
8 to spend four years six months in prison for abusing patients
at La Consolata clinic in the village of Borgo D'Ale near the
Piedmont city of Vercelli.
It was the stiffest sentence handed down in a fast-track
trial that saw another 17 defendants convicted.
"I was painted as a monster, but I'm not like that,"
Winkler reportedly told a friend shortly before committing
suicide.
