Italy wing legend Bruno Conti on
Thursday likened Antonio Conte's Azzurri who face Germany in the
Euro 2016 quarterfinals Saturday to his side that beat Germany
to lift the 1982 World Cup under Enzo Bearzot.
"I see the same things that we saw with Bearzot, the same
similarities," said Conti.
"The squad was important as a group, and we too had the
Juventus bloc," Conti told Sportmediaset.it.
"The work that Conte has done is very important: you can
clearly see the cohesion that binds this team, you see an Italy
that makes sacrifices, that enjoys itself and provides enjoyment
for us too".
"It's the group, not the individual, that wins these games
and Conte has left an important mark in this respect, there's a
lot of him in this national team," said Conti of the former
all-action Juventus midfielder.
Asked if there was a player who resembled himself, Conti
said he was "fascinated by a player like (Emanuele)
Giaccherini".
As for Germany, he said, "they're a bit big-headed as
usual, because they think they're stronger, but then it's the
result that says if they are".
