Fininvest President Marina Berlusconi, the eldest daughter of ex premier Silvio Berlusconi, on Thursday described a hefty fine issued by Italian antitrust authorities against the holding company's broadcasting subsidiary Mediaset in relation to soccer TV rights as "unbelievable".
"I find the provision unbelievable and unjustly punitive," said Berlusconi of the 51 million euro fine levvied by AGCM for allegedly breaching competition rules during the June 2014 sale of Serie A TV rights from 2015 to 2018.
"It is (unbelievable and punishing) for a company that has had the courage to invest, that has created value, that has broken a monopoly, that has created an alternative for the public and for fans that wouldn't have otherwise existed," she added. Sky Italia, the Lega Calcio soccer league and its advisor Infront also received much smaller fines.
