(ANSA) - Rome, February 3 - The Lower House on Wednesday
gave final approval to a law setting minimum quotas for the
number of woman members of Italian regional assemblies. As of
the next regional elections, the assemblies will have to be made
up of at least 40% women after the law was approved with 334
votes in favour, 91 against and 21 abstentions. The right-wing
Northern League party and the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement
(M5S) voted against the bill. At the moment, the percentages of
women members of the assemblies is much lower and the southern
regional of Basilicata does not have any women regional
councillors.
