US Democratic presidential
hopeful Bernie Sanders has evoked Dante in his crusade against
Wall Street.
Arguing for limits on credit-card interest, he said Thursday
"the Bible has a name for this practice, it's called usury. And
in the Divine Comedy Dante reserved a special place in the
Seventh Circle of Hell for those who give loans at usury-level
interest".
Wall Street's greed, he said, "is destroying the fabric of
our nation".
If Wall Street fails to curb that greed, said the Vermont
Senator, "we'll do it for them.
"Fraud is Wall Street's business model", he said, saying the
Fed had been "hijacked" by bankers.
