United States President Barack
Obama on Thursday called for tighter gun control after nine
people were killed in a hate-crime shooting in a black church in
Charleston, South Carolina.
"At some point we as a country will have to reckon with the
fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other
advanced countries... with this kind of frequency," Obama said.
"Once again, innocent people were killed because someone
who wanted to inflict harm had no trouble getting their hands on
a gun.
"It is in our power to do something about it".
