Intesa Sanpaolo posted a net profit of 1.2 billion euros in the first nine months of 2014, the Italian bank said in a statement Tuesday.
Third quarter net profit stood at 483 million euros, the lender added.
Impaired loans rose by 5.3% to 32.6 billion euros in the first nine months of the year. However loan-loss provisioning dropped from 4.32 billion euros to 3.89 billion euros over the same period reflecting an 'improving credit trend', the bank said.
Intesa shares rose by 2,5% to 2.3 euros on the Milan stock exchange on Tuesday in response to the Q3 and 9M 2014 profit results.
