Some 29.1% of foreigners aged 15
and above living in Italy say they have been discriminated
against on the basis of their race, colour or national origin,
according to a study carried out by the national statistics
institute Istat on behalf of the government's equal
opportunities department and published Tuesday.
Men and adults aged between 25 and 44 suffered most from
xenophobia, the study said.
Some 10.5% of foreigners reported experiencing
discrimination while looking for accommodation, 8.1% while in
public offices or on public transport and 6.2% from neighbours.
As many as 3.7% of foreigners said the hostility was so bad
they had been forced to relocate.
