Italian Foreign Minister
Federica Mogherini on Thursday said the fight against Islamic
State militants (ISIS) isn't a fight between the West and Islam.
"This isn't a clash of the West versus Islam," she told a
meeting of the NATO Mediterranean and Middle East Special Group
(GSM) parliamentary assembly.
Mogherini also said that NATO countries should encourage
others to join in the coalition fight against ISIS Islamic
militants.
Turkey, a NATO member country, has come under fire for its
refusal to support a military offensive against ISIS.
However, the Turkish Parliament was set to vote Thursday on
whether to authorize military force in Iraq and Syria.
Italy is supporting the international campaign to combat
ISIS, which has captured large areas of Syria and Iraq and
carried out a series of atrocities, including the beheading of
Westerners.
