Renzi pledges to stop EU cash being 'thrown away' - update

Premier says cash often 'not spent or spent badly'

(ANSA) - Rome, April 23 - Premier Matteo Renzi said Wednesday that his government will soon take action to ensure European Union funds are fully capitalised on by Italy. "We have to better use the European funds, there is lot of money and it is often not spent or spent badly," Renzi said in a question-and-answer session via his Twitter account, @matteorenzi. "We'll talk about this better next week, we'll have a special meeting and we'll launch an initiative. "Italy has thrown away money in too many cases. It's not the fault of Europe, but of the Italian bureaucrats and politicians who have failed".
