A centre offering support
and rehabilitation to paedophile priests has opened in the
diocese of Saltillo in northern Mexico, diocesan sources said
Thursday.
Emmaus House will help priests tackle the "moral, spiritual
and psychological crises" at the root of "specific problems",
the diocese said.
The centre is under the direction of monsignor Raul Vera,
bishop of Cohauila, a human-rights activist and well-known
exponent of liberation theology.
It will offer support to up to 20 priests at a time from
Mexico and the United States, who will follow a program of
"spiritual reflection and rehabilitation" for between three and
five months.
A similar structure that opened recently in Monterrey, also
in northern Mexico, has so far offered support to 43 priests.
