(ANSA) - Rome, October 16 - Brooks Koepka has been named the
2018 PGA Tour player of the year.
The PGA Tour is the top American golf circuit.
Koepka, 28, a native of West Palm Beach, Florida, won two
major championships this season - the US Open and PGA
Championship - and is third in the official world gold ranking.
He was voted PGA Tour player of the year in a ballot that
included British Open champion Francesco Molinari, world leader
Dustin Johnson, FedEx champion Justin Rose, Justin Thomas and
Bryson DeChambeau.
Koepka missed four months at the beginning of the year,
recovering from a partially torn tendon in his left wrist that
forced him to have surgery.
After his recovery, he held off Dustin Johnson at Shinnecock
Hills to win the U.S. Open for the second consecutive year,
becoming the first back-to-back US Open champion since Curtis
Strange in 1988 and 1989, and the fifth to win two Grand Slam
tournaments in the same season, equaling Tiger Woods (2000).
Koepka's top season, only marred by one defeat in the Ryder
Cup, led him to win the prestigious award.
