The centre-left opposition Democratic
Party (PD) said after a scheduled May 23 European election TV
debate between its leader Elly Schlein and Premier Giorgia
Meloni was scrubbed on equal time concerns Thursday that it
would instead have provided a much-needed moment of clarity in a
murky public discussion.
'We note that there are those who prefer to renounce on a
prime-time debate, just to deny it to the two women who lead
Italy's first two parties," said the party in a statement.
