French Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne
on Friday called for "peaceful dialogue" with Italy after the
diplomatic spat that arose after Interior Minister Gérald
Darmanin's characterisation of Premier Giorgia Meloni as a far
right leader unable to solve the migrant problems she had
campaigned on.
Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani cancelled a
trip to Paris to see his counterpart Catherine Colonna Thursday
in protest at Darmanin's attack on the Italian PM.
But he said Friday that Paris appeared to have realized the
gravity of the minister's claims after a French government
spokesman denied any wish to ostracise Italy.
