Faith cannot be lived out
in isolation or it becomes "spiritual consumerism", Pope Francis
told a delegation from the World Communion of Reformed Churches
on Friday.
"Today we often experience 'spiritual desertification',
especially when we live as if God doesn't exist," said the pope,
adding that the ecumenical journey is "blessed and full of
hope".
"Our Christian communities are called to be 'amphoras' that
relieve thirst through hope, presences that are able to inspire
fraternity, encounter, solidarity, genuine and disinterested
love," Francis continued.
"In fact it is not possible to communicate faith by living
it out in isolation or in closed and separate groups, in a kind
of false autonomy and community immanentism," he said.
