Pope Francis's historic
meeting with Russian Orthodox Patriarch Kirill at Havana Airport
last Friday sowed the seeds of peace, Italian President Sergio
Mattarella said in welcoming the pope home from Mexico Thursday.
"The international community followed with particular
attention Your meeting with patriarch Kirill in Cuba in the
conviction that that meeting may produce new seeds of dialogue
and peace for the whole world," he said.
On the pope's seven-day trip to Mexico, Mattarella said
"Your visit represented strong encouragement for the Mexican
Church which gave you a particularly warm welcome.
"I am certain that Your message will have a wide echo and
will help revive the hope for and trust in a better future for
all Mexicans, starting with the marginalised and the weakest
strata of society".
