Pope Francis tells Asia
Times in a new interview that "China has always been for me a
reference point of greatness. A great country. But more than a
country, a great culture, with inexhaustible wisdom. For me, as
a boy, when I read things about China, it had the capacity of
inspiring my admiration. I have admiration for China". The pope
also spoke of "great respect". When he flew over China "I
confess i felt very excited, something that doesn't usually
happen to me. It moved me to fly over this great richness of
culture and wisdom". The interview comes amid reported thawing
of relations between China and the Vatican over new bishops.
