The president of the
International Olympic Committee, Thomas Bach, will visit Rome
Tuesday and will meet Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) chief
Giovanni Malagò, IOC sources told ANSA Thursday. Bach will also
take part in an initiative in the Vatican. Rome Mayor Virginia
Raggi last week sank the city's bid for the 2024 Olympics citing
property speculators and debt. A motion rejecting the bid from
Raggi's anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) was passed
Thursday in the city council. Malagò and others including
Premier Matteo Renzi have criticised the No to the bid as
suggesting the M5S have little faith in their ability to stage
major events as well as managing the city.
