An agreement can be reached
between promoters of Rome's bid to host the 2024 Olympics and
the city administration, the general coordinator of the bid
committee Diana Bianchedi said Tuesday.
"Having studied the Olympic dossier in depth I don't think
that anyone can pass up this opportunity. For this reason I
think that in the end we will find an agreement," Bianchedi
said.
Rome Mayor Virginia Raggi of the anti-establishment
Five-Star Movement (M5S) has so far been overtly hostile to the
bid.
"We are pressuring her on timing but this is what the
International Olympic Committee is asking of us," the
coordinator added.
Members of the bid committee and Raggi are due to meet
after the Paralympics to discuss the dossier although no firm
date has been set.
Bianchedi made her comments during the presentation of the
results of a survey of sporting facilities in the capital.
The census showed that Rome has 2,221 existing sporting
facilities, of which over 1,000 are publicly owned.
The "strength" of Rome's bid lies in existing available
facilities, bid committee president Luca di Montezemolo said.
The project 'Roma2024 Legacy' also proposes building 15 new
training facilities for athletes at a cost of 3-3.7 million
euros each.
