The Italian women's water polo
team beat Russia in the Olympic semi-final and will vie for gold
against reigning champions and favourites USA.
The men's beach volley duo is also in the final, against
Brazil, so Italy's overall medal tally is set to surpass that of
London 2012 and Beijing 2008, when the Azzurri scored 23 on both
occasions.
Italy is already on 23 with eight golds, nine silvers and
six bronzes, putting them in sixth place in the medals table.
The men's volleyball team goes up against mighty Serbia in
the semi-final later today.
