Race walker Alex Schwazer on
Monday appealed to the national anti-doping tribunal and the
Italian Athletics Federation (FIDAL) against world athletics
governing body IAAF's decision to ban the 2008 Olympic 50 km
champion for testing positive to testosterone, Schwazer's lawyer
Gerhard Brandstätter said. "We have notified the appeal to
FIDAL, stressing the absolute urgency of a response," he said.
Schwazer is hoping for a reprieve before next Monday, July 18,
when the list of participants in the Rio Olympics must be
submitted. "We are going ahead on our way," Brandstätter went
on. "The last opinion gathered is that of a Dutch expert who
pointed out what many have already said: Alex's profile is one
of antidoping".
