League Senator Simone Pillon,
known for his ultra conservative pro-life, pro-family and
anti-gay stances, was fined 1,500 euros Thursday for defaming
Perugia gay group Omphalos LGBTI by saying their initiatives in
schools were a front for "initiating" them into gay sex.
Pillon was ordered to pay Omphalos 30,000 euros in damages
for the allegation, made before he became a Senator.
The League Senator claimed Omphalos was pushing a gay agenda
in schools and trying to assert gender theory.
"It costs a lot to defend the family," Pillon commented.
Omphalos LGBTI Chair Stefano Bucaioni said "justice has been
done towards a personage who has made a political battle out of
his hatred towards homosexual and transsexual people.
Several ,members of the Perugia gay association were in court
when the sentence was read out.
They hugged, visibly satisfied.
