Vytenis Andriukaitis on Thursday tweeted "in today's newspapers:
measles epidemic in Italy, first death from measles in Portugal
and increase in measles cases in Germany. Deplorable. Shame on
you, anti-vaccine lobby!". Vaccines are a hot-button issue in
Italy with anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S) leader Beppe
Grillo slammed for past statements against them and a RAI State
broadcaster programme under fire for highlighting adverse
reactions ot the human papillomavirus (HPV), while a nurse was
caught not vaccinating children in northern Italy.
