Palermo prosecutors on Thursday
requested 14 indictments for alleged false signatures backing
2012 municipal candidates in the Sicilian capital for the
anti-establishment 5-Star Movement (M5S).
The 14 probed include three MPs including former M5S House
whip Riccardo Nuti, two regional councillors and a court
official.
The charges range from fraud to the violation of a 1960
regional law which enshrined national electoral regulations,
judicial sources said.
Nuti and his fellow MPs, Giulia Di Vita and Claudia Mannino,
issued a statement saying "the attempt to remove us politically
is clear, to leave the field open, via a well-organised
frame-up, which the magistrates will be able to unmask in the
trial".
