Hosting the Olympics makes cities
better, Premier Matteo Renzi said Monday. "Great events change
the face of a city, making them cleaner and more efficient,"
Renzi wrote on his online newsletter. "This has happened
practically always, beginning with the sensational Barcelona
1992 experience". Renzi and Italy's Olympic committee support a
possible bid by Rome to host the 2024 Olympics, which is opposed
by new Mayor Virginia Raggi from the opposition,
anti-establishment 5-Star Movement.
