Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni on
Thursday phoned new British Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson to
wish him well in his new job in view of "intense cooperation" on
foreign-policy issues, the Italian foreign ministry said.
Gentiloni said he was looking forward to meeting Johnson in
Lodnon next week to swap views on Syria, and then in Washington
for the summit of the anti-ISIS global coalition.
During their phone conversation, the foreign ministry said,
Gentiloni reaffirmed Italy's intention to conduct negotiations
for the UK's exit from the EU from a stance of friendly
cooperation, and at the same time he asked the British
government for clarity on the timeframe and procedures for the
Brexit talks.
