Foreign Minister Paolo Gentiloni on
Monday voiced confidence the government will win an autumn
referendum on Constitutional reform and so Premier Matteo Renzi
will not resign, as he has vowed to do if he loses.
"We are confident we will win the referendum" on overhauling
Italy's political machinery, Gentiloni told the BBC.
Renzi "will not resign", he said.
"The referendum is not on the government, and Renzi will not
lose it," Gentiloni said.
Gentiloni added that Renzi's government had made a series of
important reforms, in particularly to the labour market, that
would boost the economy, while acknowledging that growth was not
high enough.
In other remarks, Gentiloni said the migrant issue was the
"most destabilising one" for Europe.
