Interior Minister Angelino Alfano on
Wednesday ruled out quitting over wiretaps in which officials
under investigation for graft discussed his brother's hiring by
the Italian Post Office and his father's recommendations of some
80 people for other jobs. Alfano stressed no criminal activity
had been uncovered and told his New Centre Right (NCD) party
that there would not be another case like that of former NCD
transport minister, Maurizio Lupi, who quit over a Rolex watch
given to his son by a graft suspect. "A resignation is not on
the agenda," said NCD MP Sergio Pizzolante after Alfano met with
NCD members. "This is a final attack on the government and a
leadership class after the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement
has been touted as the new leadership class," Pizzolante said.
