Premier Matteo Renzi's cabinet on
Friday gave preliminary approval to a decree clamping down on
the use of labour vouchers, which employers can buy to pay for
temporary or occasional work not done on a contract. Trade
unions have blasted the vouchers, saying they are being widely
abused, with some employers using them to give a semblance of
legality to people actually working regularly and
often full time. The decree aims to make it possible for the
authorities to track the use of vouchers by obliging employers
to communicate the name and tax code of the worker and how long
they will work at least one hour beforehand.
