Carlo Calenda is to replace Federica
Guidi as industry minister, Premier Matteo Renzi has said.
The former deputy industry minister and now Italy's
permanent representative to the European Union is to be sworn in
by President Sergio Mattarella later this week, Renzi said on
popular RAI 3 talkshow 'Che tempo che fa' on Sunday evening.
"(Calenda) is someone that used to run the machine and so I
asked him to return," Renzi said.
Guidi resigned as minister at the end of March over a phone
tap in which she could be heard discussing a government
amendment on a Basilicata oil project with her boyfriend
Gianluca Gemelli.
Gemelli is being probed for conspiracy to commit corruption
and falsely claiming influence over a public official in order
to obtain bribes.
Guidi is not under investigation in the probe.
