Justice Minister Andrea Orlando on
Thursday asked Giovanni Legnini, head of the Supreme Council of
Magistrates (CSM), the judiciary's self-governing body, for a
formal meeting to clear up the case of CSM member Piergiorgio
Morosini who gave an interview - the content of which he has
denied - to the Il Foglio newspaper in which he allegedly said
Premier Matteo Renzi "must be stopped" in an alleged campaign
against the judiciary. Legnini, for his part, said that any
attacks by magistrates on government members were
"unacceptable". Legnini said "attacks on exponents of the
government and parliament are unacceptable". He said "we expect
respect for our functions, but to do them we must above all
ensure respect for the representatives of State powers".
