A trial in which Lombardy Governor
Roberto Maroni is accused if exerting undue pressure to get jobs
and flights to Tokyo for two former aides was halted Thursday
because of the upcoming local elections across Italy in which
Maroni tops a municipal ticket in Varese. A Milan court upheld a
plea from Maromi's defence team. Maroni, a former interior
minister, is a heavyweight in the rightwing populist Northern
League party. The trial was adjourned until June 23, almost
three weeks after the June 5 elections.
