Former Rome mayor Ignazio Marino
said Thursday he won't stand in June 5 mayoral elections.
"I ask you to choose...a man or a woman...who can lead the
city of Rome, win the election and carry on with the work that
has been done," Marino told supporters at the launch of his
book, A Martian in Rome.
The ex-Democratic Party (PD) mayor is affectionately known
as 'The Martian'.
The PD ultimately disowned him over an expenses scandal,
forcing his resignation in October last year.
Rome has since been managed by a special commissioner.
