The national watchdog commission of
the ruling Democratic Party (PD) on Wednesday rejected an appeal
from former Naples mayor and ex-Campania governor Antonio
Bassolino against the results of recent mayoral primaries in
Naples that saw his PD rival Valeria Valente prevail amid claims
of vote buying in five constituencies. The commission said it
was not competent to judge the case. Bassolino, who lost to
Valente by about 400 votes, has said the primaries would be
"delegitimised" unless there was a revote in those
constituencies. Bassolino has seen two previous appeals to a
Naples centre-left primaries watchdog turned down.
