Premier Matteo Renzi said
Thursday his administration will prove major public works can
get done on time in Italy. "We will work constantly on public
works that have been paralyzed," he said in the Calabria city of
Cosenza. "We will be tireless, and at the same time we need to
imagine the future. I do not want to spend the next months
debating the Salerno-Reggio Calabria (motorway). I want to get
it done, and then go to those reporters who laughed and say: now
you can laugh at me, but not at Italy...you can't use the errors
of the past to throw platitudes in our face. One of these being
that public works in Italy are a mess. We will prove...that it's
not so". Renzi also pledged investments in "Calabria, Campania
and Sicily. "We will retake the South...centimeter by
centimeter, and we will bring it back to being what it was at
the beginning of the process of national unification: the
leader". "In the coming months it will be key to invest 2.5
billion euros in the national program for research and culture
as magnets for growth," the premier said.
