Italian women earn on average
6.5% less than their male counterparts, putting the country in
third place in the European Union with respect to the gender pay
gap, Eurostat said Monday.
Slovenia and Malta came respectively in first and second
place with a difference of 2.9% and 4.5%, the European
statistics agency added.
Women earned on average 16.1% less than men across the
bloc, Eurostat said.
Italy performed less well on the number of hours worked by
women, with 27.8% of women without children working part-time,
against a European average of 20%.
The percentage in Italy rose to 35.7% among women with one
child, 42.1% among those with two children and 45.1% among those
with three or more.
This compared with a European average respectively of 31%,
39.2% and 45.1%, Eurostat said.
